A  peptic ulcer is erosion [an eating or gnawing away] in the lining of the stomach or the first part of the small intestine [duodenum.]
Common in men and students studying for Nclex. 
Nclex Tips: Take a liquid antacid to COAT THE STOMACH, this will protect the ulcer from acid. Also, take when stomach is EMPTY and at bedtime. 
Common Meds used- Prilosec, Prevacid, Protonix, Nexium, Zantac, Pepcid, Axid.
